The Budget Division of the Volta and Oti Regional Co-ordinating Councils (VRCC/ORCC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Ghana Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS) Secretariat organized a two-day mid-year budget review workshop for Budget Analysts and Finance Officers of Municipal and District Assemblies (M/DAs) in the Volta Region. From Thursday 10th to Friday 11th August, 2023 at the Residency Conference Hall in Ho.

 The workshop was to refresh and retrain participants in GIFMIS reporting, warrant and Payment Voucher preparation, liability capturing and Activate Software. The programme also provided M/DAs the opportunity to review and revise their budgets in most cases and supplementary budgets in some cases and submit same for uploading onto the GIFMIS financials.

The Regional Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Augustus K. Awity welcomed participants and entreated them to pay keen attention in order  to reap the full benefits to aid them adequately review and revise their 2023 composite Budget to cater for the remaining months of the year.

There were presentations from facilitators including; Mr. Vide Ofori of GIFMIS Secretariat and Mr. Kenneth Avedzi from Fiscal Decentralization Unit (FDU) of Ministry of Finance (MoF).

Mr. Vide Ofori from the GIFMIS secretariat, retrained participants in GIFMIS reporting, warrant and PV preparation and liability capturing. He further mentioned that, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) might start in September 2023 as some selected MMDAs are currently piloting the EFT with twenty-three (23) commercial banks.

 He entreated all M/DAs to adequately prepare their revised budgets to accommodate all natural account codes frequently used in the M/DAs.

Mr. Kenneth Avedzi from the Fiscal Decentralization Unit (FDU) of Ministry of Finance (MoF) took officers through the activate Software and entreated officers to use appropriate natural account codes. He validated the budget captured by M/DAs in the Activate Software.

 The programme was informative, interactive and beneficial as all questions were answered by the facilitators.

At the end of the workshop, the Acting Regional Budget Analyst, Mr. Saviour Kudiabor expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Mid-year Budget review and entreated all to take every comment and suggestion made very serious to guide them in their daily routines.
