A colourful event was held to mark Government’s absorption of the Ziavi Senior High Technical School into the public second-cycle institutions of the country. The well-attended event held on the school compund, Ziavi -Dzogbe had the Chief of Staff, Mad. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare as the Special Guest of Honour.
In a short address, the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, stated that the event followed the granting of the appeal of the Chiefs of Ziavi Traditional Council for the absorption of the school when he accompanied them to pay a courtesy call on His Excellency the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House, Accra.
Dr. Letsa announced that the school had been selected to benefit from an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre.
He seized the opportunity to express appreciation to Government for converting the footpath that joined the Klefe Traditional Area and Ziavi Traditional Area into a tarred road.
The Chief of Staff, on her part, elucidated the importance of Free Senior High School (Free SHS) as introduced by His Excellency the President in 2017.
She indicated that she had taken notice of the appeal made by the Paramount Chief of the Area, Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV and would ensure that they are positively responded to. The appeal included the following:
1. Provision of a school bus,
2. Provision of a Girls Dormitory (to be named after her)
3. Provision of a Pick-up vehicle for the school, and
4. Completion of a Getfund classroom block.
The Chief of Staff stated she had a keen interest in the development and performance of school. Therefore, she entreated teachers to give their best towards the performance of the school in examinations as she would be monitoring their performance to serve as a motivation for her to do more for the school.
Consequently, she initiated a Teacher-Motivation Fund and donated a seed money of Twenty Thousand Cedis (GH¢20,000.00). She appealed to well-meaning citizens of the area and across the country to donate to the fund whose sustainability she was committed to.
She assured that the school would be provided with twenty (20) sets of Desktop Computers with the support of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).
Mad. Osei-Opare presented an electronic piano from the Ministry of Education to the school.
She entreated the youth in the area to embrace education and show dedication as well as commitment to their studies in order to become beneficial to themselves and the community.
Finally, she entreated them to eschew all forms of social vices.
It is important to note that the Ziavi Traditional Council has conferred on the Chief of Staff citizenship of the area.
Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Hon. Minister of Railways Development, Mr. John Peter Amewu; Hon. Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, and some Hon. Municipal and District Chief Executives.
