The 2022 Edition of the Green Ghana Project has been scheduled for Friday, 10th June 2022. Under the Edition, the country seeks to plant twenty (20) million trees, four times the target for the previous year. His Excellency (H.E.) the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the 2022 Edition of the project on 1st March 2022 in Accra under the theme, “Mobilising for Greener Ghana.”

In line with the above, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission, Mr. John Allotey paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa on Monday, 16th May 2022 at his office, Ho. The call, according to Mr. Allotey, was to express appreciation to the Hon. Regional Minister for his support for the project in 2021 which resulted in the Region exceeding its target of planting two hundred thousand (200,000) trees.

He also expressed appreciation through the Hon. Regional Minister to the Chiefs and people of the Region, Ghana Education Service, Regional Security Council, and Municipal/District Assemblies among others for the success of the project in the previous year.

Mr. Allotey stated that his presence in the Region with his team was to find out the preparations made so far towards Friday, 10th June 2022. He mentioned that the Volta Region has a target of planting 500,000 tress this year, and was optimistic that the Region would meet the target.

Furthermore, he stated that he would use his presence in the Region to visit the various nurseries to find out the readiness of the seedlings for planting.

He subsequently sought the support of the Hon. Regional Minister in mobilising the Regional House of Chiefs, Municipal/District Assemblies, Regional Security Council, Political Parties, Religious Bodies, Ghana Education Service, Trade Unions and other stakeholders to participate in the planting of trees on the date earmarked.

Dr. Letsa, who welcomed the Chief Executive Officer and his team acknowledged the importance of the Green Ghana Project to the nation’s economy and environment. He therefore assured that he would participate in the project as he did the previous year.

Furthermore, he assured that he would use his good office to mobilise the stakeholders the CEO had mentioned to participate massively in the tree planting exercise come Friday, 10th June 2022, in order that the Region could plant one (1) million trees.

Dr. Letsa revealed that the Green Ghana Project is dear to H.E. the President of the Republic who has charged all Hon. Regional Ministers, at the launch of the 2022 Edition to ensure its success.

Finally, Dr. Letsa assured the Forestry Commission of the support of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council toward another successful exercise.
