The Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa has toured some areas in the Ho Municipality which got flooded yesterday, Thursday, May 28, 2020 following a heavy downpour. He was accompanied on the tour by the Hon. Deputy Regional Minister, Pastor Johnson Avuletey; Regional Director of NADMO, Mr. Divine Bosson, Regional Director of Department of Urban Roads, Mr. Edward Annan, and Ho Municipal Director of NADMO, Stephen Adigon, among others.
In all, they visited eleven affected areas which included YMCA, Asogli Traditional Council, Lighthouse (Amegashi), Tsikpota, Rabazey and CK Road 1 and 2.
They inspected drains in the affected areas. Considering the devastation caused, the Hon. Volta Regional Minister stated that urgent interventions such as desilting and dredging of some drainage systems would be carried out, for it was identified that some drains (gutters and culverts) had been choked with solid waste and soil.
He also stated that some of the affected areas needed redesigning and re-engineering which government was committed to carrying out.
The Hon. Volta Regional Minister therefore appealed to the people to desist from building on waterways as well as disposing off solid wastes in the drainage system in the municipality. He emphasised the need for the Ho Municipal Assembly to enforce its by-laws on development control and waste disposal.
