On 17th November 2022, the Region had the privilege to host the Hon.  Minister of Food and Agriculture, the Hon. Deputy Minister Food and Agriculture and their entourage comprising Heads of the various Agricultural Directorate at the national offices and members of the media. The Hon. Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and his entourage were on a 1-day working visit to the Volta Region.

As part of the visit, the Hon. Minister made a field tour of some facilities of interest including EDMAS Food Processing Factory at Abutia, From Home (Afe) Uultramodern Poultry Farm at Sokode , Ziave Pineapple Farms, and  Praise City Agro Ecological Farm. EDMAS Food Processing Factory is mainly into maize grits production for brewery companies; Home (Afe) Ultramodern Poultry Farm undertakes intensive mechanized systems egg production; Ziave Pineapple Farms, produces and exports fresh pineapple; and Praise City Agro Ecological Farm is  an on-farm learning centre for the youth and agricultural production.

The Hon. Minister was highly impressed with the level of agricultural production in the Volta Region. He expressed joy about the fact that production was on commercial basis, and to some extent for export.

 He therefore commended the owners of the facilities he visited for their contributions towards national development.

The Hon. Minister at the end of his field tour interacted with staff of the Department of Agricultural at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council Residency’s Conference Hall. The Acting Regional Director of Agriculture, Mr. William Dzamefe, at the interaction session made a presentation. He stated that the Region had the potential of drawing more investors into agriculture, particularly rice production as the Region abounds with many perennial water bodies and vast hectares of land. While addressing the staff, the Hon. Minister entreated the staff to continue to put in their best and encourage more farmers to go into commercial farming
