President signs a Book of Condolence in Honour of the late Togbega Gabusu VI
The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akufo Addo signed a Book of Condolence in honour of the late Togbega Gabusu VI, the Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area at the Traditional Council Office in Hohoe. Th signing of the Book of Condolence forms part of his 2-Day Official Tour of the Volta Region.
At a short ceremony to welcome the President and also mark the event, Togbe Keh XII of Gbi Wegbe in a Welcome Address expressed the gratitude of the Chiefs and People of Gbi to H.E. the President for coming to mourn with them. He stated the Chiefs had taken notice of H.E. the President’s keen interest in the affairs of Gbi.
Consequently, he pointed out the cordial relationship that existed between the President and the late Paramount Chief by referring to the presence of H.E. the President as an attestation of that relationship.
Furthermore, he commended the President for taking the lead to mourn with them and sign the Book of Condolence although they were yet to officially inform him of the passing of Togbega Gabusu VI.
That notwithstanding, Togbe Keh XII indicated that they would be at the Jubilee House to officially inform the President about the death and the Final Funeral Rites.
He requested of the President to ensure the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road to fulfill the wish and appeal of the deceased.
He concluded with an appreciation of the President for the numerous development projects in the Hohoe Municipality and assured him of their support.
On his part, H.E. the President said there was no way he could have passed through Hohoe on his way from the Oti Region without coming to express his condolences to the Chiefs and People of Gbi.
He said the late Paramount Chief was a very close and not a fair weather friend of his. He therefore extolled the leadership qualities of the deceased.
H.E. Nana Akufo Addo however expressed his sadness about not being able to complete the construction of Hohoe Township Roads before the demise of Togbega Gabusu VI. He therefore assured that he would complete the construction of the Township Roads in fulfilment of his promise to the late Paramount Chief.
On the Eastern Corridor Road, H.E. the President indicated that six contractors were working on various sections of the road, and when completed it may be named “Togbega Gabusu VI Highway”.
As custom demands, the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa presented to the Chiefs cartons of bottled water, assorted drinks and cash towards the burial and funeral of the late Paramount Chief on behalf of H.E. the President.
