The Hon. Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku  (MP) and her Team embarked on a familiarisation tour of some selected tourist sites in the Volta Region from Friday, 15th to Monday, 18th June 2018. The tour, among other things, was to enable the Hon. Minister and her team identify development planning policy gaps in the development and promotion of tourism, arts and culture in the Region, particularly along the beaches to ensure good sanitation.

 

As part of the tour, there was an “Open Defecation Free Campaign, which saw the team engage some communities, which host tourist sites, on the need for households to own toilets.

Among the tourist sites visited by the Hon. Minister was the Wli Waterfalls in the Hohoe Municipality; Volta Lake Side at Dzemeni in South Dayi District, Fort Prinzenstein in Keta Municipality. At Wli Water Falls, the highest Water Falls in West Africa, Madam Catherine Afeku stated the readiness of her Ministry to set up an Automated Revenue Collection System at the site as part of measures to restructure the facility and generate enough revenue for development.

While in the Keta Municipality, the Hon. Minister and her team paid a courtesy call on Togbui Sri III, the Overlord of the Anlo State.

The Minister was accompanied by some celebrities in Ghana’s Showbiz industry to the Region to help promote the tourism potentials of the Region through social media. The celebrities included celebrated actor, Van Vicker, Highlife Musician, Lucky Mensah, and Rapper Edem who have been tasked to leverage on their social media presence to promote tourist sites in the Region.

The Minister and her team also paid a courtesy call to the Hon. Deputy Volta Regional Minister Mr. Maxwell Qophy Blagodzi, who represented the Hon. Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa.
